Continuing a period of expansion and generational change, the firm recently named three long-time staff to Associate Principal at the 93-year-old design firm. One of the largest and oldest professional services firms in the region providing architectural and interior design services, the employee-owned firm is in its seventh generation of leadership.
New associate principals include Jennifer Stukenberg, NCIDQ, LEED AP; Scott Holmes, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP; and Steve Erickson, AIA, LEED AP.
Stukenberg joined BWBR in 1996 and immediately gravitated towards the design of spaces that directly impact the behaviors and activities of people. Working across market sectors, from office design to recreation and health care, she has become a leading advocate for the use of design as a tool to attract and retain employees, seeing the intersection of health, well-being, and productivity. Her work includes corporate centers, community and recreations facilities, and hospital and clinical spaces.
A native of Wayzata, Minn., Stukenberg is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in interior design.
A 27-year veteran in the field, Holmes joined BWBR in 2001 as a medical planner with significant experience helping health care organizations program spaces that increase efficiencies and improve the delivery of care. Board certified through the American College of Healthcare Architects, in 2014 he complete the Regents Certificate for Management Fundamentals in Healthcare Organizations at the University of Minnesota. Holmes’ work includes facilities for critical access, community, and regional hospital organizations.
Additionally, a leading medical planner in the design of mental health facilities, Holmes co-authored a paper examining the effects of space on the outcomes for patients with mental illness. Holmes has used the findings from Avera Behavioral Health Center, a ground-breaking facility designed by BWBR, to guide the design of other mental health facilities around the region, including at Regions Hospital, Gundersen Health, and University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
A resident of Hudson, Wis., Holmes holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Iowa State University.
Erickson joined BWBR in 1988, and through his career he has gravitated towards spaces that build community and embody the ideas of community service. From college buildings and schools to community centers and churches, he has tackled projects that represent the ideas of various stakeholders to create facilities that are uniquely functional and personal, such as the recently opened Karner Blue Education Center, a first-of-its-kind facility in the region designed specifically for children with severe autism and emotional-behavioral disorders.
A native of Arden Hills, Minn., Erickson graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota.
